Hello, hello. My name is Renee. I use she/her/hers pronouns. It’s nice to introduce myself to you digitally.
I identify as a black woman, wife, dog mom, introvert, food lover, travel seeker, comedy fan, Aquarius (as I get called out all the time for it), lifelong learner, 2SLGBTQIA+ ally, descendant of some bad-ass ancestors, and child of God. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea…. I’m a can of grape soda. That’s right; I’ve said it.
I value and respect voice and choice. I am committed to culturally responsive, liberation-focused, and identity-affirming care. When you seek counseling services, I invite you to do so knowing that you are at the center. I also encourage you to remember that you have choices. Finding the right counselor for you in the season that you’re in is unique and important. That won’t be everybody and it may not be me and that's okay. It takes a village. You can choose who's in it.
Education
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Studies from Grand Canyon University as well as a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling. I am independently licensed through The Board of Behavioral Health Examiners in Arizona.
I have served in a variety of settings from community health to private practice and with various populations. I utilize an array of approaches including trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Gender Affirming Competencies, and more.
Approach
I approach therapy as a collaborative conversation. I utilize evidence-based and feedback driven practices from a culturally sensitive and liberation rooted approach, with real life language. What does that mean?
It means that we keep it real. I support others in identifying, highlighting, and flexing their strengths to help respond to challenges, reclaim their voice, and elevate their thoughts. I emphasize the work and progress you’re already accomplishing. You are your greatest asset, if you give yourself permission to be. Nurture your gifts. Nurture your growth.
